DiscoHelmetTOArtist Statement: Adam Quang

Adam works as an interdisciplinary artist, exploring human nature and plausibility in contemporary society, that stroke the senses of touch, sight and the heart. The works explore the vulnerability of inner personal emotion, and the sophisticated urbanite one must become.

Adams art stirs our imagination through images and metaphoric, provoking action from the viewer and inviting them to be part of his evolving art. His works hinges on duality of his life spent in Asia and North America, in a mass market vs mass marketing,

From living in the urban jungle in recent years he observed people are more cynical, loosing trust in our social fabric and politicians (i.e. Arab Spring / Rob Ford the mayor on crack). Adam observed through pop culture, selfishness and the acceptant of “Selfies” have become celebrate and idolized (i.e. the Kardashian).

We are emotionally apart  from each other, even through we are more connected via social media and internet now than ever before, but we have lost our human interaction to each other. The concept of compassion and social grace is not in most of our thinking.

1000Kindness Adam Quang2
As an artist with multi-modal art practices and theoretical contextualization, he wants to create art which motivates people to ask questions in a new and positive way. Creating cultural work that builds community by linking art and life together in #DiscoHelmetTO and #1000Kindness installation art.

#1000Kindness and #DiscoHelmetTO are projects that intersects reality, collects and reassemble human kindness and compassion into a repertoire. In doing so, it provokes the perspectives of the willing participant, by reveal humanity of one’s relationship with his/her reality, opening up the viewers mind to new possibilities. “What can I do / give” Instead of “What in it for me / What I get?”
